In the last few months we have posted a couple of singles from Work Drugs’ new album Absolute Bearing, and we are excited to announce that itis finally out today! We think the album is the perfect score for all your summer adventures, be that driving across the country or shacking up with that special someone. Since the band is about to head out on tour, we took the chance to ask Work Drugs member Tom Crystal a few questions:
What is your most unforgettable or magical musical experience to date?
I think our most unforgettable musical experience was the opportunity to open for Two Door Cinema Club on their 2011 US tour. As a relatively new band, I never imagined playing legendary venues such as The Showbox in Seattle and The Fillmore in San Francisco. In retrospect it was the probably the smartest move we ever made as a band. Lots of fond memories on the road and lots of great young eager kids who really seemed to enjoy our music. Oh yeah, and a lot of miles on the van.If you had to share one artist right now with a friend, who would it be and why?
One artist that Ben and I have been really into lately is a duo out of Nashville called Jensen Sportag. The production of their music is incredibly detailed and layered, and yet where a lot of artists fall short or go overboard, they remain very tasteful. Great bass grooves and great hooks. Very very smooth. The “Pure Wet EP” is perfect SexMusic music. My personal favorites are “Everything Good” and “Jareaux” http://soundcloud.com/jensensportag/sets/pure-wet/How do you feel about people getting down to your music?
I don’t think about it much as it would probably be weird to get down to my own music (haha), but I do think that its pretty cool. We get a lot of emails from people telling us that our songs have been the soundtrack to some key / crazy moments in their lives. In fact we got an email the other day from a guy saying that him and his girlfriend met and bonded over their love for the song Rad Racer. He didn’t go into detail, but I’m sure there was some “getting down” involved.what are your top 3 songs to get down to?
Well if I were to break it down into the three phases of “getting down,” it would have to be these three… in this order: Tyrone Davis - In the Mood, Crystal Castles - Suffocation, and Al Green - Let’ Stay Together.if you could put together your dream concert, who would be on the bill?
It would have to be classic era Hall & Oates opened by Steely Dan. Maybe a special guest appearance by Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins just to spice things up?Absolute Bearing can be streamed for FREE over at BandCamp. You can also follow Work Drugs on tumblr and download more of their music via Amazon and iTunes.
